The real test, section by section
Before anything else, know the shape and the size of the paper you are sitting. Most people who underperform were not short of English — they were surprised by the format.
🎯 Full-length OET Nursing mock exam
84 marked items · timed · audio plays once · marked instantly with explanations
The complete paper, built to the structure above: Listening 42 items across two consultations, six workplace extracts and two presentations. Reading 42 items with Part A enforced at 15 minutes. A referral letter from case notes. Two speaking role-plays with preparation timers. Twelve minutes of original audio.
Clinical listening
Four passages in the settings you already work in — a handover, a patient describing symptoms, a teaching talk, and discharge instructions. Play once at normal speed before you look at anything else.
Clinical reading
Workplace texts of the kind OET uses and the register IELTS Academic expects. Time yourself — speed is half the test.
Writing
Three real tasks, each with the official time limit and word minimum. Write in the box — it counts your words live and warns you if you are under length, which is an automatic penalty on both exams.
Speaking
The highest bar on every one of these exams, and the section most people practise least. Record yourself, then listen back. That is the whole method.
Clinical term → plain English
Say it aloud before you reveal the answer. These earn marks in the speaking test and they are the register NCLEX teaching items expect.
